Welcome to the Michigan LCV Education Fund!

Turning environmental values into community priorities.

We Did It!

On Friday, The U.S. House of Representatives passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (ACES), by a vote of 219 to 212. For the first time ever, America has a comprehensive clean energy and global warming bill with the potential to transform our economy by creating clean energy jobs, improving our national security, and protecting our planet from global warming pollution.

We still need your help in this fight. Click here for more details.

In honor of 10 years of turning environmental values into community priorities, and thanks to the support of a special anonymous donor, we are launching a brand new website at www.michiganlcvedfund.org in July!

But we need your help! This donor has challenged us to raise $15,000 by the end of July. Your donation will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, giving twice the impact to help our website and our mission.

Please support us by clicking here and donating online today.

Your donation of $25 becomes $50, $50 becomes $100 and $100 becomes $200!

It is critical that we continue to guard our Great Lakes, protect our children from toxic toys, and get Michigan running on clean energy. With a real change in energy policy and clean energy incentives, we can boost economic growth, create thousands of jobs, and lead Michigan and the US back to prosperity.

With your help, we will make sure your voice is heard in Lansing and at the US Capitol.

Your support is critical in the battle against the army of lobbyists employed by special interests who choose profit over the protection of our planet.

Together, we can make certain that our elected officials have a clear mandate to move us toward a clean, renewable energy future.

Each one of us needs to step up right now. Thanks for your dedication!

Did you know that less than 1% of the State's general fund is dedicated to natural resource protection and maintenance?  Even though recreation and tourism is our third largest industry, the legislature continues to underfund the Departments that protect the very resources that our economy relies on.  Please visit our Take Action page to find out how you can help.

The Michigan League of Conservation Voters Education Fund Staff has been traveling the State to promote legislative action on federal energy policy and State level policy affecting children's environmental health.

Mark Niesler, Climate Change Specialist, recently toured the Upper Peninsula to build support and educate citizens on pending federal energy policy. Please read a recent article in the Daily Press, based in Escanaba, that followed Mark's visit. It is available here.

Abby Rubley, Michigan LCV Policy Director, toured the state with a giant rubber ducky and stops on the lawn of our State Capitol!

Backed by a 25-foot inflatable rubber ducky at press events around the state, some of the state's leading health, medical, health-affected and environmental organizations enthusiastically supported the recently introduced Safe Children's Products Act as a first step to protecting children from toxic chemicals in children's products.

Abby was also on hand for The Michigan Network for Children's Environmental Health Earth Day (April 22) citizen action day at the Capitol to help move the bills (HB 4763-69) swiftly.

For more information and to learn what you can do in support of these bills, please visit the Ecology Center!

 TAKE ACTION!

Support President Obama’s energy and global warming policies

Senator Carl Levin and seven of his fellow Democratic senators are opposing speedy action on President Barack Obama's bill to combat global warming, complicating prospects for the legislation and creating problems for party leaders.

The House and Senate budget committees are slated to vote on the resolution next week, with Senate debate scheduled for the week of March 30.

Therefore, it is critically important that you VOICE YOUR CONCERN for these issues with your federal legislators and statewide media.  You can access a sample letter to your legislator here.
