Senate Slow to Act on Protecting Children from Toxic Toys

Our children are some of the most vulnerable among us. They drink more water per day per pound of body weight than do adults; they play on surfaces both inside and out that hold likely contaminants, whether pesticides from lawn chemicals or off-gases from carpeting. They also play with toys made of a variety of synthetic materials.

The Michigan state House of Representatives recently passed a seven-bill package called the Children's Safe Products Act, which would require the Michigan Department of Community Health to create a list of chemicals (many likely found in children's products) of concern and identify those of highest concern by year 2012.
