Wind Power is Economic Power

The Grand Rapids Press editorial board recently examined the potential for economic gain through off-shore wind power in the Great Lakes.  By highlighting the possibilities for economic growth, as well as the need for swift action from state and local governments, the GR Press did a great job of breaking down an issue that is picking up steam. While lakeshore residents have the right to provide input on off shore wind, and should be active as Michigan develops standards and best practices for implementation, this is an issue that affects all Michigan residents. The Press is correct in criticizing proposals to enact a moratorium on off-shore development. Off shore wind development has enormous economic potential, and it must be done right the first time, so that Michigan does not miss out on opportunities to lead in the clean energy economy.
