Our Work
What We Do
The natural beauty so many Michiganders love is facing some serious threats:
- Global warming is increasing the growth of invasive species, the strength and frequency of damaging storms, and could raise the planet’s average temperature up to nine degrees in the next century.
- Investment in conserving Michigan’s natural beauty has been dramatically cut over the last 10 years. Today, Michigan is the 47th lowest-spending state per-capita on environmental protection.
- Our children’s health continues to be threatened by the effects of global warming, increased pollution, and toxic chemicals.
To find solutions to these challenges, we must build the strength and the power of environmental and conservation voters. The long-term objective of Michigan League of Conservation Voters Education Fund is to strengthen the environmental and conservation community as we grow a base of conservation-minded voters around the state.
A key part of that strategy is year-round education efforts for the responsible protection, maintenance, and preservation of our natural resources. Much of that work is reflected in the key publications produced by the Michigan LCV Education Fund. We also empower and mobalize Michigan citizens to take action on the issues they care about through our Conservation Action Team.
Our major programs aim to:
- Strengthen the strategic ability and power of Michigan’s environmental community;
- Expand the base of known and potential environmental voters;
- Build grassroots field capacity for legislative advocacy and environmental issue work;
- Deepen our connection to voters through our “Great Lakes Connections” Project.
