Earth Day 2010 vs. Earth Day 1970: What has changed over the course of that 40 year period? Are the environmental problems confronting us different? Are the attitudes of the students different? Certainly the socio/political context in which Earth Day 2010 takes place stands in stark contrast to 1970 when our country was in the midst of the Vietnam War, the civil rights movement, the women’s rights movement, and the Cuyahoga River was—literally—on fire.
Join WEMU Morning Host David Fair and me on April 2nd, for an in-depth conversation with Don Scavia, Director of the Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute and Special Counsel to the U-M President for Sustainability. Don has been at the hub of Earth Day 2010 at the University of Michigan, which—due to the complexity of the issues confronting us and the increased focus on environmental protection—from Environmental Justice to climate change to food systems and sustainability—has become Earth Month in Ann Arbor, and on many campuses across this country.
