Veterans tour supporting clean energy, safer nation returns to Michigan

Last autumn several military veterans, including Royal Oak native Aaron Bailey, brought their 21 state bus tour to the Mitten state as part of the Operation FREE: Veterans for American Power tour.

Because the Senate still has not acted on comprehensive climate and energy legislation which could make the nation safe from foreign-oil funded terrorists, more energy independent, and provide hundreds of thousands of clean energy jobs, the veterans are reprising their tour, once again visiting several Michigan cities to bring their message to wider audience.

The group supports cheap, domestic and renewable energy and contends drastic changes in our weather climate increase potential for military conflicts.

If the absurd, shrill attacks that have been launched against them are any indication, the folks with Operation FREE and their firsthand knowledge of the dangers of global warming are a major thorn in the side of the science deniers and special interests who want to stop clean energy reform at all costs.

Outrageously, some in Washington have called the veterans of Operation FREE "traitors" and compared them to Benedict Arnold, while back in December, Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) said that the retired generals and admirals who testified before Congress that global warming poses a national security threat only did so because they craved the "limelight."

Apparently, these critics think risking their lives for their country wasn't enough to earn these veterans the right to speak their minds on an issue they happen to know a little something about.
We encourage you to come out and show your support for these brave veterans and their new mission, securing America with renewable energy.

The tour arrives in Battle Creek on March 14, and makes stops in Traverse City and Cheboygan on the 15th, Flint on the 16th, Detroit on St. Patrick’s Day, and visits Monroe on the 18th.

The Michigan League of Conservation Voters is coordinating press, hospitality, and in-district visits with our U.S. Senators during the veterans Detroit visit. If you or someone you know is a veteran and would like to participate in a radio interview or editorial board visit, please contact Mark Neisler.
