Upcoming Events You Don't Want to Miss!

It's spring and there are a number of really interesting events taking place in Washtenaw County over the next few weeks.First, the University of Michigan is doing a bang up job celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day. Given that most major environmental and conservation organizations were "birthed" due to the Earth Day momentum 40 years ago (national LCV certainly was) AND that a major source of the nationwide energy came from campuses like U of M, this retrospective celebration is much appreciated. It is also a fine way to highlight the critical issues that confront us today, from energy/climate, environmental health and water/the Great Lakes. If you've never seen an Asian carp first-hand, there'll be one at the Teach In on March 25!! You can find more info at www.umich.edu/earthday.

Another key event you may want to note is the Ninth Annual Peter M. Wege Lecture, "Science and Technology Policy, Priorities and Opportunities in the Obama Administration" by John Holdren, assistant to President Obama for science and technology and director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, March 22, 5-6:15 p.m., Rackham Auditorium.

Finally, please note that the National Wildlife Federation's CEO Larry Schweiger will be in Ann Arbor on Tuesday, March 23 as part of his national book tour for Last Chance: Preserving Life on Earth. There is a public talk at the law school scheduled in the late afternoon, with a book signing to follow.

Lots happening in and around the University of Michigan in the coming weeks! I'm sure the same is true in other college towns across the state. Clean water, clean air, healthy communities! That's what it's all about!
