What You Saw, Heard or Missed at Wednesday's Gubernatorial Forum at CMU

Thanks to everyone who attended or tuned in to coverage of Wednesday's Gubernatorial Candidate Forum on Michigan's Economic and Environmental Future at Central Michigan University.

Republicans Rick Snyder and Tom George and Democrat Virg Bernero took questions from our two media partners, the Detroit Free Press and Michigan Radio. For those of you who missed it, here are some of the highlights:

As reported by the Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant:

--- On the prospect of alternative energy sources playing a role in Michigan's future:
“I am convinced it is the real deal,” said Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. “We have to continue to make investments"
“There is real substance to alternative energy,” said Ann Arbor businessman Rick Snyder. “I think it’s been overhyped by the governor.”
Sen. Tom George said development of alternative energy is “not there yet."

--- On offshore wind in the Great Lakes:
“On a hot day when there is no wind, you get no energy,” George said.
Bernero said he'd be “open to” offshore turbines in the right conditions.
Snyder said an initiative (the Great Lakes Wind Council) already has begun setting standards, and the state should listen closely to what that group said.

As reported by Michigan Radio:

--- On the threat of Asian carp and other invasive species entering the Great Lakes:
Snyder said an Illinois shipping channel should be permanently closed.
Bernero agreed.
George said Michigan needs a compact with other Great Lakes States to prevent the spread of the invasives.

CM Life also reported on the forum, along with other media outlets.
